“I have suffered from depression since my early twenties. I have tried numerous medications … just hoping the medication would kick in and I would finally be free … I was surprised and glad when I learned that Dr. St. John was offering TMS. It is absolutely amazing how this treatment can affect your mind. I took a short trip at the end of my treatment. I felt the best I had felt in a long time. The improvement was more than I had ever had from any of the medications …” – Anonymous, St. John Mental Health Clinic of Houston, TMS patient
TMS stands for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. It is a ground breaking treatment for depression.
Dr. St John was an early adopter of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS therapy). Because she has been performing TMS since 2013, nearly 10 years, she has extensive experience performing thousands of treatments on patients with depression. She sub-specializes in the evaluation and treatment of depression and is an expert in the field. She elected to further her training by undergoing a week-long training in advanced TMS topics at the Berenson-Allen Center for Neuromodulation at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA in 2015 and obtains routine continuity medical education on current research in TMS through her membership with the Clinical TMS Society. She and her staff have developed a highly effective system for obtaining insurance approval for patients Dr. St John considers to be candidates for TMS. Lastly, patients routinely rave about Rachel and the care she provides during their treatments.
St. John Mental Health Clinic of Houston has used TMS in the fight against treatment-resistant depression since 2013. Since then, a response rate of 76% and a remission rate of 58% of the patient population was observed. This means that more than three-quarters of their patients cut their symptoms of depression in half, and almost two-thirds were symptom-free of their depression after completing a full course of TMS treatment in our Houston office.
